Meaning & Reflection
From the vast 'evil of what He created', the Surah now singles out three specific dangers — and the first is night: 'the darkness when it settles in'. Ibn Ashur explains that night is chosen because it is the cover under which harm creeps unseen. al-Biqa'i sharpens it: darkness is named because hidden harm — arriving when you are off guard, unheeded — is the most damaging of all; 'the worst enemy is the concealed one'. Ask yourself: which harms in my life crept in quietly, in a spiritual 'night' when I wasn't watching — a slow habit, a cooling heart? What would it mean to seek Allah's protection before the dark settles, not only after?
