إِنِّىٓ ءَامَنتُ بِرَبِّكُمْ فَٱسْمَعُونِ
English: I believe in your Lord, so listen to me.’

'Indeed, I have believed in your Lord, so listen to me!' Ibn Ashur notes the courage of the open declaration: standing before a hostile crowd that had just threatened to stone the messengers, this man publicly plants his flag — 'I believe' — and demands to be heard. He does not hide his faith to stay safe; he announces it at the moment it is most dangerous. Ask yourself: I often keep my convictions quiet precisely when speaking them would cost me something — the awkward room, the disapproving crowd. This man's faith became loudest under threat. When standing for what I believe would make me a target, is my instinct to whisper, or to say 'listen to me'?
