ٱلْيَوْمَ نَخْتِمُ عَلَىٰٓ أَفْوَٰهِهِمْ وَتُكَلِّمُنَآ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَتَشْهَدُ أَرْجُلُهُم بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ

English: On that Day We shall seal up their mouths, but their hands will speak to Us, and their feet bear witness to everything they have done.

Bengali: আজ আমি তাদের মুখে মোহর এঁটে দেব তাদের হাত আমার সাথে কথা বলবে এবং তাদের পা তাদের কৃতকর্মের সাক্ষ্য দেবে।

Meaning & Reflection

'Today We seal their mouths, and their hands speak to Us, and their feet bear witness to what they earned.' Ibn Ashur and al-Biqa'i stop at the staggering reversal: the mouth — the organ of excuses — is silenced, and the very limbs that *did* the deeds become the witnesses that report them. The instruments of the sin turn into its evidence. Ask yourself: I live as though my private deeds leave no trace, as though I could always talk my way around them. This verse says the hand that took, the foot that walked there, will testify in my place, and my practiced explanations will not even be allowed. If my own body were the witness, would its testimony match the story I tell about myself?
