وَلَهُمْ فِيهَا مَنَٰفِعُ وَمَشَارِبُ ۖ أَفَلَا يَشْكُرُونَ

English: some for other benefits, and some for drink? Will they not give thanks?

Bengali: তাদের জন্যে চতুস্পদ জন্তুর মধ্যে অনেক উপকারিতা ও পানীয় রয়েছে। তবুও কেন তারা শুকরিয়া আদায় করে না?

Meaning & Reflection

'And in them are benefits for them, and drinks. Will they not then give thanks?' al-Saadi and Ibn Kathir note the layered provision — not one use but many: transport, food, milk to drink, and more — and the verse ends, as it keeps ending, with the question: will you not thank? Ask yourself: the sheer *stacking* of benefits in a single creature is easy to overlook precisely because it's so generous — I take the many gifts as one undifferentiated 'normal'. This verse slows me down to count them, then asks the recurring question of the whole Surah. Gratitude, it seems, is not a feeling that arrives on its own but a *noticing* I have to choose. What ordinary provision, if I actually counted its layers, would move me to thank?
