يَخْرُجُ مِنْهُمَا ٱللُّؤْلُؤُ وَٱلْمَرْجَانُ

English: Pearls come forth from them: large ones, and small, brilliant ones.

Bengali: উভয় দরিয়া থেকে উৎপন্ন হয় মোতি ও প্রবাল।

Meaning & Reflection

'From both of them come pearls and coral.' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note the surprise: it is from the *meeting* of the seas — even from salt water — that beauty is drawn up, pearls and coral formed in the depths and offered to the surface. Ask yourself: I assume good things come only from 'sweet' sources — ease, comfort, favourable conditions. This verse shows treasure produced in the deep, dark, salt places. So many of my own pearls — patience, depth, compassion — were formed not in my easy waters but in the harsh, briny ones I would never have chosen. What is being slowly formed in me right now, in a place that feels only bitter and deep?
