عَلَّمَهُ ٱلْبَيَانَ
English: and taught him to communicate.
Bengali: তাকে শিখিয়েছেন বর্ণনা।
Meaning & Reflection
'He taught him expression (al-bayan).' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note that bayan — the power to put the inner world into words, by speech and by writing — is precisely what distinguishes the human from every other creature, and is counted here among the greatest of favours. Ask yourself: the very sentence forming in my mind right now, the ability to name what I feel, to be understood and to understand — I treat it as simply *me*, not as something taught. This verse calls it a gift of the Merciful. If my capacity to express myself is a mercy I never manufactured, how am I using it — to clarify truth and console others, or to deceive, wound, and waste? The tongue that was taught is accountable for what it says.
