Surah Ar-Rahmaan 55:62 — Meaning, Translation & Reflection
سُورَةُ الرَّحۡمَٰن · Medinan · Verse 62 of 78
وَمِن دُونِهِمَا جَنَّتَانِ
English: There are two other gardens below these two.
Bengali: এই দু’টি ছাড়া আরও দু’টি উদ্যান রয়েছে।
Meaning & Reflection
'And besides these two, there are two other Gardens.' Ibn Ashur and al-Biqa'i note the layering: Paradise is not a single flat place but comes in *ranks* — 'and besides these two, two more' — so that even what is presented as the lesser pair is still beyond imagining. Ask yourself: I tend to think in terms of merely 'making it in' — the minimum bar cleared. This verse reveals *levels*, degrees of nearness and reward, and invites ambition: why aim only at the threshold when there are heights above heights? It reframes the spiritual life as not just avoiding failure but *aspiring* — reaching for the higher Gardens. Am I settling for the lowest passing grade, when I was invited to climb?
Grounded in classical tafsir: Ibn Ashur, al-Biqa'i, al-Saadi.
Reflect with the Five Lenses
Maani's framework for Tadabbur (heart-centred reflection) on Surah Ar-Rahmaan 55:62:
- Wording. Look closely at the specific words and structure. Which word stands out, and why might Allah have chosen it here?
- Quranic Worlds. Place the verse in its context — what is happening around it, and what world does it open up?
- Personal Experience. Ask not just what this means, but what it means TO me and FOR me, right now in my life.
- Connections. How does this verse connect to other verses, to the Sunnah, or to themes across the Quran?
- General Lessons. What timeless lesson or action point can I carry away and live by?
