Meaning & Reflection
'Will surely be gathered for the appointment of a known Day.' al-Saadi and Ibn Ashur note the certainty of 'miqatin yawmin ma'lum' — a *known*, appointed time, fixed with God though hidden from us: not a vague possibility but a scheduled meeting. Ask yourself: the Day is 'known' — it has a date, set and certain, even though I am not told when. That combination is exactly what unsettles: guaranteed to happen, but its timing withheld, so I can neither dismiss it nor postpone my readiness to the last minute. It is the appointment I cannot see on my calendar but cannot cancel. Living wisely means preparing for a certain meeting whose hour is deliberately hidden — precisely so that I am ready *now*, not scrambling later. Am I living as though that appointment is real, dated, and possibly soon?
