وَلَقَدْ أَضَلَّ مِنكُمْ جِبِلًّۭا كَثِيرًا ۖ أَفَلَمْ تَكُونُوا۟ تَعْقِلُونَ

English: He has led great numbers of you astray. Did you not use your reason?

Bengali: শয়তান তোমাদের অনেক দলকে পথভ্রষ্ট করেছে। তবুও কি তোমরা বুঝনি?

Meaning & Reflection

'And he had already led astray a great many of you. Did you not then use reason?' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note the appeal is not to fear but to *intellect*: look at the enemy's staggering body-count across history and ask how so many followed an openly declared foe. The verse treats being deceived by Satan as a failure of reasoning. Ask yourself: I flatter myself that I'm too clever to be manipulated — yet this verse says multitudes of the clever were led astray precisely by not thinking. The proof of intelligence is not immunity to deception but the willingness to examine who I'm following and why. Where have I switched off my reasoning and simply drifted along a path an enemy laid out for me?
