'Both having abundant branches.' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note 'dhawata afnan' — laden with spreading boughs, every kind of branch and shade and fruit: a picture of overflowing, varied abundance, nothing sparse or bare. Ask yourself: my imagination of reward tends to be thin — relief from pain, a bit of ease. This verse paints lush, branching plenty, variety upon variety. It stretches my sense of what my Lord's generosity looks like: not a minimal comfort but an extravagance of good. If the reward is this abundant, does it lift my sights beyond the small, scarce things I usually settle for — and reshape what I'm really working toward?
