'As if they were rubies and coral.' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note the imagery of clarity and purity — the ruby's translucent depth, the coral's fine beauty — signalling a loveliness that is flawless, radiant from within. Ask yourself: this world's beauty is always mixed, always fading, always hiding some flaw beneath the surface. The verse points to a beauty with no such shadow — pure through and through. It relocates my longing: the aching pull toward beauty that this life keeps half-satisfying and then disappointing is meant to lead me toward the unmixed, unfading kind. Am I letting the flawed beauties I chase here become idols — or signposts pointing to their flawless Source and the reward He keeps?
