وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلْمِيزَانَ

Meaning & Reflection
'And the sky He raised, and He set the Balance.' al-Razi notes the deliberate pairing that runs through the Surah: earlier the Qur'an (guidance), and here the mizan (justice) — the two pillars on which everything rests. The same act that raised the heavens 'set the Balance', binding cosmic order and moral justice into one fabric. Ask yourself: I think of physics and ethics as separate departments — the way the universe *is* versus the way I *ought* to act. This verse fuses them: the God who balanced the heavens also set a Balance I am meant to keep. Justice is not a human invention layered onto a neutral universe; it is woven into the same order that holds up the sky. Am I living in tune with that Balance, or against its grain?
