إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ

English: ‘We are burdened with debt;

Bengali: বলবেঃ আমরা তো ঋণের চাপে পড়ে গেলাম;

Meaning & Reflection

'[Saying:] Indeed, we are now in debt.' Ibn Ashur and al-Saadi note the first cry of the farmer whose crop has failed — 'inna lamughramun': we are ruined, laden with loss, our investment gone. Ask yourself: this is the voice of every collapsed plan, every effort that came to nothing — the sick sense of 'I've lost everything I put in.' The verse captures it precisely because it wants me to feel how quickly my sense of security can flip to devastation when what I relied on fails. And it presses the deeper point: if my whole footing can be knocked out by one failed harvest, then my footing was never really the harvest at all. Where have I built my security on something that could leave me crying 'we are ruined' the moment it slips?
