Surah Al-Mulk 67:9 — Meaning, Translation & Reflection

قَالُوا۟ بَلَىٰ قَدْ جَآءَنَا نَذِيرٌۭ فَكَذَّبْنَا وَقُلْنَا مَا نَزَّلَ ٱللَّهُ مِن شَىْءٍ إِنْ أَنتُمْ إِلَّا فِى ضَلَٰلٍۢ كَبِيرٍۢ

English: They will reply, ‘Yes, a warner did come to us, but we did not believe him. We said, “God has revealed nothing: you are greatly misguided”.’

Bengali: তারা বলবেঃ হ্যাঁ আমাদের কাছে সতর্ককারী আগমন করেছিল, অতঃপর আমরা মিথ্যারোপ করেছিলাম এবং বলেছিলামঃ আল্লাহ তা’আলা কোন কিছু নাজিল করেননি। তোমরা মহাবিভ্রান্তিতে পড়ে রয়েছ।

Meaning & Reflection

'They will say: Yes, a warner did come to us, but we denied and said, God has not sent down anything.' al-Biqa'i notes they confess in full, sparing themselves nothing — they even called the messengers themselves the misguided ones. The horror is that every gate to guidance had been opened for them, and they barred each one by choice. Ask yourself: it is a strangely modern reflex — to meet a truth that unsettles me by insisting there is nothing to it, that the whole thing is 'made up'. This verse shows where that reflex leads when it becomes a whole life's posture. When something true disturbs me, is my first move to examine it, or to dismiss it so I don't have to change?
